Hi!
My name is Jonas, I am 16 years old and in October 2022 I will be going to school for six months on the Atlantic Ocean with School at Sea.
THE JOURNEY
Together with 36 other pupils, I will sail to the Caribbean and back again on a three-master. I will learn things in practice that are not taught at school: getting to know other cultures, teamwork, perseverance and independence. During the trip, school will continue as usual: two days of school, two days of waiting.
SHIP TAKEOVER
After two months, the apprentices take over the ship. From navigation to cooking and from cleaning to maintenance of the machines. There are many excursions, exchanges with local schools and private trips where you go backpacking in small groups and have to arrange everything yourself.
SPONSORING
Part of the project is to raise €26,000. In exchange for a business sponsorship of €1000 or more, I will make a drone recording of a location of my choice. So you will be the wind in my sails!

It does not feel right to me to collect such a huge amount of money just for my own 'growth'. Therefore, I have decided to help a good cause at the same time.
During exchanges with schools along the route, I will explain to the local pupils what The Ocean Cleanup is and what it does. In this way, I hope to do my bit to reduce the plastic soup in the ocean.
